An immediate opportunity has arisen to join our Inpatient Therapy Team as a Band 3 Bank Therapy Support Worker to work alongside our Registered Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists at the The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic and proactive people to work within our therapy team, taking responsibility for delegated aspects of clinical intervention, working without direct supervision and providing feedback to the Registered Therapist or Advanced Practitioner regarding assessment of patient progress.
Main duties of the job
Working under the guidance of qualified therapists you will support patient assessment and treatment as directed, providing a high standard of Therapy intervention following protocols agreed by professional colleagues. You will perform screening assessments and hold responsibility for your own caseload as delegated by the Registered Therapist. You will work within a competency framework to perform tasks involving frequent manual handling of patients. The workload can be complex and challenging so you will need to have the ability to cope under pressure and prioritise your workload, with support and guidance from your senior colleagues.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Main responsibilities will include -
- carrying out identified assessments with specific patients referred to therapy
- carrying out the therapy treatment programme with the patient and monitoring progress under the guidance of the Therapist and within agreed protocols
- gaining consent to treatment from the patient and identifying where the patient lacks capacity to do so
- liaising with relatives/carers to gain their views / needs as part of the overall assessment, treatment, and discharge planning process
- providing accurate feedback to the Therapist regarding the patient’s condition and the progression of treatment
- making referrals to external agencies as requested by the Therapist
- liaising with other members of the multidisciplinary team, attending board rounds and meetings, as appropriate, referring patients on and actively contributing to the discharge planning process.
- being aware of clinical risk within own patient caseload escalating issues to senior staff
- complying with legislation regarding patient confidentiality
- working in accordance to the Trust and Therapy Centre policies, procedures, and guidelines
- being responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive treatment records in line with the Trust and Therapy Centre standards of practice
- attending all Trust statutory and mandatory training as required.
