We are looking to appoint Cross Sector Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians and have 2 posts at the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford and 2 posts available at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

The role of a Pharmacy Technician is challenging, varied, complex and responsive to the increasingly innovative development of new medicines and their role in healthcare today.

This vacancy offers the exciting opportunity to train in different sectors of Pharmacy, including Hospital Pharmacy, Community Pharmacy and GP practice (depending on placement availability).

The training opportunity is an advanced apprenticeship full time fixed term contract for 2 years. You will study to achieve :- L3 Integrated Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship.  This qualification is approved to enable you to apply for registration to practice as Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Training and support will be provided by work based mentors and course tutors during your training.

Any age post full-time education 16+ 

·       Cannot already be on an Apprenticeship or any Government funded training,  

·       Cannot have a qualification at the same or higher level in the same vocational area. 

·       Has been a UK resident for 3 or more years.

·       Meets the eligible and valid residency status and permission to work in the UK criteria in Annex A of the linked funding document:

Main duties of the job

The position of trainee Pharmacy Technician is a two-year fixed term post which will enable the trainee to complete an advanced apprenticeship in Pharmacy leading to application for registration with The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) to practice as a professionally registered Pharmacy Technician.

Whilst in training the post holder will carry out pharmaceutical duties, under the direct supervision of an appropriate person in all sections of the Pharmacy department at the Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust, the community Pharmacy placement and the GP placement.  Some of the duties will be in the form of training exercises and competence-based assessments in conjunction with the L3 Integrated Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship.

The Pharmacy department is split over 2 sites, The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.  An inpatient and outpatient dispensing service is offered at both sites along with patient medication review and  stock management at ward level. The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital site has an aseptic suite to compound and supply intravenous chemotherapy, nutrition and radioactive tracers for both sites.
