The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust is delighted to offer this exciting Band 6 Physiotherapist position, split across the regional Renal Dialysis Units and the acute medical wards including the Renal Ward. This role allows the successful post holder the opportunity to build long term working partnerships with Dialysis patients.
Patients who attend our regular dialysis clinics are often vulnerable to global deconditioning, pain issues as well as complex medical co-morbidities. This role aims to engage patients in meaningful therapeutic exercise and enhance the quality of life for service users. Intradialytic exercise is a new and evolving area of renal care, as such the post holder will have potential opportunities to be part of Trust research projects and advancing this specialist knowledge base.
Our dialysis units deliver vital services to users through the day and so the post allows the successful candidate to flexibly deliver 15 hours per week without set obligations to weekend or on-call working.

Main duties of the job
This role will be based working within the regional dialysis units with key duties including group and individual therapy sessions, develop and review home exercise programmes as well as the delivery of education in line with current evidence base. This role involves travel to the 2 regional units at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Telford, with an occasional requirement to travel to Ludlow Hospital.
Main duties include:
- To assess, interpret and manage own specialist caseload of complex patients as an autonomous practitioner in accordance with Professional Code of Conduct and HCPC Regulations.
- Engage in own learning to develop self and service
- Participate or lead on projects to develop services
- Provide learning opportunities for others including assistant practitioners and students as well as celebrating learning and achievements with the wider therapy and MDT teams.
- The post holder will work in close co-operation with colleagues within all Care Groups to deliver a cohesive service that is user led ensuring a consistently high standard of patient care.
- To work closely with team leads and clinical leads to ensure a robust structure of training, supervision and appraisal is delivered to all members within the team.
- To act as a source of Specialist advice and support within the Therapy Centre and across the Trust and the wider health care system.
