  • This is a newly created post to work on the sub acute wards at The Royal Shrewsbury and The Princess Royal Hospitals to provide dietetic support to patients recently discharged from the acute hospital into these step down beds managed by Shropshire Community Trust.
  • The patients may then require support once discharged into the community where your colleagues would continue the dietetic intervention.
  • The successful post holder will join a team of qualified community dietitians and assistant practitioners working across the county in a variety of settings
  • Ideally the successful post holder would have some experience working in the community or a wide range of experience with the ability to work autonomously 

Main Duties

  • To work as an autonomous practitioner within the Community Dietetic Team specialising in nutrition support whilst delivering clinics across the full range of Dietetic specialities within the community, supported by highly specialist therapists. 
  • To perform therapeutic assessment of patients within the clinical setting with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver individualised treatment programmes.
  • To manage a defined caseload, using evidence based, client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
  • To provide clinical education, advice and support for junior therapy staff and support staff.
  •  To provide highly specialist knowledge, skills and advice to clients, and be a source of expertise for therapy staff, other members of the MDT and other agencies.
  • To supervise, educate and assess the performance of therapy Learners.
  • To contribute to service research and audit activities.
  • To propose any service changes within own professional speciality area.

Our dietetic team is a county wide service working collaboratively with our partners both internally in the hospital and the community.

The team consists of neonates, paeds, weight management, acute services, community, renal and diabetes.  We are proactive in having students from Coventry University and will be supporting apprentice roles in 2025. 

The team are committed to CPD and have designated Supporting Professional Activity in their work plan.
