We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our busy, dynamic nursing team in the Emergency Department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH). This is a demanding role that requires dedication and a positive attitude and approach towards change. With emergency care ever changing and evolving this is an exciting opportunity to provide new and innovative health care services to our patients and to help develop the department for the future of emergency services within our Trust.

The successful candidate must have a proven ability in supervising, managing and controlling the activities of a unit in an effective and efficient manner.

You will be a clinical role model and have a willingness to develop the team as well as your own professional growth.

You will have excellent communication skills and high clinical standards with a passion to make a difference for patients and staff alike.

There will be the opportunity to work cross site.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work very closely with the Band 7 Senior nursing team. You will be required to develop strong links with all members of the MDT and assessment areas and ensure that patient care is of the highest standard possible. 

In conjunction with the ward/ department manager will oversee the day to day supervision of their ward/ department/team, effectively motivating, and directing staff to ensure that time and resources are managed through effective teamwork.

To ensure that staff have a clear knowledge of their duties and be accountable and of the standards of performance and conduct expected of them during their span of duty.

The department has recently undergone a refurbishment which consists of an extension to our majors area, ARA this is the area for ambulance arrivals and a dedicated paediatric area along with a just opened new Urgent Treatment Centre for minors and GP stream. Our workforce is growing and our recruitment very successful. A very exciting time to join our ED with opportunities to develop with formal Royal College Nursing - Emergency Nurse Competency based assessments with accreditation supporting all nurses to work in majors, minors, resus, paediatrics and mental health. Our Professional Education Facilitators will take you through the robust training program and link in with your Band 7 clinical team leader. We hold ED study days lead by the ED team, teaching skills and knowledge in line with the Royal College of Nursing competency framework.
