The role of the pharmacy Support Officer (Aseptic) is varied one, you will never be bored!

The Aseptic Unit is a specialised clean area within Pharmacy where injectable products are manufactured. These products treat chemotherapy patients or are used in diagnostic tests.

You will be working in the Aseptic Cleanrooms, carrying out stock control within the Pharmacy Department and delivering medication the ward/clinic areas. 

Main duties of the job

Refer to Job description for more detail, but main duties include:- 

Cleaning of the aseptic cleanrooms and support areas.

Disinfecting and transferring work into clean room hatches and isolators.

Replenishing stocks in Aseptic areas, maintaining good stock control.

Assembling ingredients and sundries needed for preparation.

Assisting in the processing of aseptically prepared products. 

Processing and organisation of the rental laundry service.

Assisting in the ordering, receipt and despatch of pharmaceutical products and sundries.. Using the pharmacy computer systems to maintain stock records, documentation and labels where appropriate.

Filing of prescriptions and documentation according to local policy and procedures.

Delivering medicines produced by the Aseptic Services section of the pharmacy, to the ward/clinic areas.

Safely delivering radiopharmaceuticals to Nuclear Medicine department.

Disposing of different types of waste, according to local policy and procedure.

Carrying out selected quality control tests including environmental monitoring.

The Aseptic Unit is a specialised clean area within Pharmacy where injectable products are manufactured. These products treat chemotherapy patients or are used in diagnostic tests. 

The Aseptic service also supplies ready made chemotherapy,  intravenous nutrition and other products to hospital patients. The Aseptic team consists of Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Senior Pharmacy Support Officers and Pharmacy Support Officers. They all have an important role to play in the provision of high quality medicinal products to the patients.
